Kylee Mitchell Wells, Executive Director - Detroit
Kylee Mitchell is the executive director for the Detroit market with Ballmer Group, where she is charged with developing and leading the philanthropic giving strategy for the city and throughout southeast Michigan.
Previously she served as an appointee for the Office of Grants Management with the City of Detroit where she was responsible for the strategic usage, timely expenditure, monitoring and compliance of $185 million of federally granted resources. She began her career with the City of Detroit as a management consultant for Conway Mackenzie, the consulting firm hired by the Emergency Manager’s Office to assist with the financial restructuring of the City’s finances – resulting in the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history. As a consultant she was focused on financial streamlining and process improvements for the City’s Planning and Development Department.
Prior to working on the City of Detroit‘s restructuring plan, Mitchell served as program officer, financial stability at the United Way for Southeastern Michigan. She was responsible for coordinating and managing sector-based workforce partnerships and the strategic investment of the fund’s resources.
She spent time in Washington, D.C., serving as a program director for Mayor Adrian Fenty, where she implemented Bank on DC the mayor’s economic inclusion initiative which targeted low-to-moderate income populations in the District of Columbia.
Mitchell has 10 years of combined experience in corporate finance with BOSCH-USA, General Motors Corporation, and the Detroit Regional Chamber. She received a Master of Public Administration from Baruch College - School of Public Affairs and a Bachelor of Business Administration and Finance from Davenport University. She is a National Urban Fellow, a Michigan Political Leadership Fellow and an active community member, serving on a variety of boards and committees.
