Kylee Mitchell joins Ballmer Group as Detroit Executive Director

We have been looking for the right candidate to extend our philanthropy and civic activism to the Detroit region - where Steve grew up and a community we care deeply about. Our national search brought us into contact with an impressive array of leaders - many from within the region, and many from elsewhere - who make a positive difference in the lives of children and families. We are thrilled to announce that we have selected Kylee Mitchell to join Ballmer Group as our Detroit Executive Director.

In her new role, Kylee will develop Ballmer Group’s regional strategy in coordination with our national work and regional efforts in Seattle, WA, and Los Angeles, CA. We are particularly interested in supporting the promising neighborhood-based work underway in the city, as well as identifying critical organizations and infrastructure needs to make progress on economic mobility. We believe Kylee has the right mix of experience and skills to help us engage in a thoughtful way that builds on the great progress already made.

Kylee is a native Detroiter who has dedicated her career to addressing challenges that can help move people out of poverty in Southeast Michigan. Kylee’s impressive resume demonstrates both her passion for Detroit and her considerable experience working across the region’s public, private, and social services sectors. Most recently, Kylee served as Senior Director – Detroit Market for the national nonprofit Enterprise Community Partners. She launched their Detroit office and created strategies to bring capital, programmatic, and policy/advocacy solutions to address the needs of low-and-moderate income neighborhoods. In this role, Kylee also managed an investment portfolio comprised of grants and loans to community development corporations and housing development firms throughout Southeast Michigan. Before her experience at Enterprise Community Partners, Kylee was appointed as an Associate Director for the City of Detroit, managing the US Department of Housing and Urban Development's grant portfolio. She has also worked as a program officer focused on advancing economic mobility issues for United Way for Southeastern Michigan, was a 2014 Fellow for the Michigan Political Leadership Program at Michigan State University, and was a National Urban Fellows Graduate.

We are certain that Kylee has the innovative spirit to find new and creative ways to serve Detroit, and she shares our belief in the power of this region to drive systems-level changes that improve the lives of children and families. Please join us in welcoming Kylee to the team!
