Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital: Filling a shortage of doctors in South LA

Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital (MLKJCH) takes aim at closing a critical physician gap in South Los Angeles, estimated to be about 1,200 primary care and specialty physicians.

When it opened in 2015, MLKJCH projected 35,000 annual visits to its emergency room. However, it now sees 90,000, hospital officials say - and more than half its discharged patients say they have no regular doctor.

Along with Weingart Foundation, we hope that our support will allow MLKJCH to hire more doctors who can give neighborhood residents, many of whom are low-income, access to basic care. Watch Steve Ballmer talk about giving opportunity to kids born in poverty.
